The Tank Museum has announced the latest book in its “Guide to” series, The Tank Museum Guide to Daimler Ferret. Written by acclaimed author Pat Ware, it offers a comprehensive exploration into the history, development, use and enduring legacy of what is arguably the most successful armored car ever produced.
Built between 1952-72, the Ferret Armoured Car accompanied British forces in every major post-war deployment for over 40 years. It also served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) regiment on airfield protection duties.
The book covers the idea for a “new” armored scout car in a 1947 War Office policy statement, to its last active service with the British Army in the first Gulf War and its continued use with armed forces around the world until ’96.

The Tank Museum’s assistant marketing manager, Gemma Butler, said in a press release:
“This exciting new read gives enthusiasts a chance to delve into the history and uses of this iconic British armored car.
“Joining our existing series of self-published books, this book contains fascinating details about what gave the Ferret the reputation as a vehicle that could follow and find the enemy wherever they went.”
The Tank Museum Guide to Daimler Ferret can be pre-ordered exclusively from the Tank Museum’s website. Orders placed before March 28, 2026, allow each customer to have their name printed in the acknowledgements section.
