Affleck-Damon Team Up for Battle of Bunker Hill Movie

We will be expecting a new historical epic coming in the not so distant future from Warner Bros. with Hollywood actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in its production team – the silver-screen reenactment of the Battle of Bunker Hill, a bloody battle fought during the early stages of the American Revolutionary War.

The battle of Bunker Hill was a confrontation between American forces, mainly militia forces and British regular forces. The battle is usually seen as the start of the American War of Independence.

The Bunker Hill movie will be adapted from the book Bunker Hill: A City, A Siege, A Revolution by author Nathaniel Philbrick [who also penned the bestsellers In the Heart of the Sea and Mayflower]. According to sources, Ben Affleck is set to direct it with Matt Damon as one of the producers. The two men are friends and have worked together in the past, very successfully, in the film Good Will Hunting.

But aside from producing, talks have come out about Damon playing one of the lead roles in the Bunker Hill movie. He, reportedly, will take on the character of Joseph Warren, a doctor and soldier who went on to become one of the leaders of the Patriotsthe name given to the colonial rebels. He died in this battle. Other notable characters in this film are fellow Revolutionary Patriot Paul Revere as well as Thomas Gage and General Howe, the commanders of the British Forces at that time.

Accordingly, the movie will center on a group of people whose lives and deeds were central to the events in the run-up to, and during the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. Warner Bros. acquired the movie rights to the book way back in 2013. Aaron Stockard, who has worked with Affleck in his Gone, Baby, Gone and The Town movies, is set to write the screenplay of this historical epic.

There have been relatively few movies on the American Revolutionary War, despite its historical importance. The new film about the Battle of Bunker Hill will help to introduce a new generation of filmgoers around the world, not just to the battle, but to the history of the American Revolutionary War.
