Research request for Chiswick resident who died at Arnhem in 1944. A request for information about a Chiswick soldier killed in the battle of Arnhem in 1944 has been issued. Philip Reinders is looking for any information, documentation, as well as a next of kin, for former Chiswick resident Sergeant John Robert Mann.
Mann was from G Squadron, Glider Pilot Regiment, no. 6291394, and died on 23rd September 1944, aged 22. He was the son of Sidney George Normann Mann and Ellen Mann, and lived at Athgarven, Sutton Lane, Chiswick. Reinders is researching the soldiers who were killed in the battle of Arnhem and buried in the garden of a Dutch housewife Kate ter Horst, who tended wounded and dying Allied soldiers there, and was nicknamed by her pateitns the ‘Angel of Arnhem’.
Within two years, Reinders, who has been researching the Battle of Arnhem for 38 years, hopes to publish a booklet about these soldiers. He has requested anyone with information to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
