Dan Snow gives us a day-by-day account of the miraculous evacuation at Dunkirk during WWII.

On May 28th 1940, the Belgium Army surrendered, leaving the British even more exposed to a German attack. However, the ‘little ships’ begin to arrive shortly afterwards – pleasure boats, Thames steamers and ferries coming to the aid of the beleaguered BEF.
