5 Incredible Coincidences

Presenting the top 5 most incredible WWII coincidences: Tamerlane, the epic Mongol warlord, whose tomb was uncovered the day of the Nazi German invasion of the Soviet Union, “DeadlyDouble,” the New Yorker advertisement which appeared to warn of the impending Pearl Harbor surprise attack, Tsutomu Yamaguchi, the Atomic Man who survived both nuclear bombs dropped on Japan, the Crossword Mystery that nearly put an early end the D-Day Invasion, and the Midway Miracle.

The Midway Miracle

Of these five coincides the Midway Miracle is perhaps the best known. In one battle the balance of forces shifted from Japan to the USA. Japan lost four aircraft carriers in 24 hours, a loss from which they could not recover.

No fiction writer could have written a weirder plot for his battle where fortune and disaster went hand in hand.

Tamerlane’s Curse

We also like the story of the exhumation of the great Mongol warlord Tamerlane. It’s positively creepy. The Mongol leader was exhumed by Soviet archaeologists on June 19, 1941. It is alleged that Tamerlane’s tomb was inscribed with this curse -“When I rise from the dead, the world shall tremble.” It was also said at the time that inside the casket, the following declaration was found: “Whomsoever opens my tomb shall unleash an invader more terrible than I.”

Three days later, Hitler unleashed his invasion of the Soviet Union, Operation Barbarossa. In 1942, the body of the conqueror was reburied with full rites, and shortly afterward, the Soviets claimed the final victory at Stalingrad.
