“The Monuments Men” release will be on the first quarter of 2014. The delay of the showing of the movie directed, co-written and starred by George Clooney is due to the very extensive visual effects editing.

“The Monuments Men”, a film which is about the recovery of looted artworks and other treasures during and after World War II and is due to star major names from Hollywood is moved for released in 2014.  The PostStar reports that next year’s showing of the movie will also mean losing its chance of being included in the fall awards season.

A spokesperson from Sony Pictures, which is distributing the film, said the movie is set to be released on the first quarter of 2014 instead of the originally planned date, October 18 this year. George Clooney is hands-on the film as director, co-writer and star in the film. “The Monuments Men” was believed to be a top contender for the Oscar Awards. While the film can still compete in the awards next year, Sony Pictures is not expecting the movie to gather as much public and media interest if shown during the post-holiday season. This positioning could also make the movie less likely to “garner any awards interest”.

Sony Pictures said they are foregoing the release of the film at the end the year in exchange for quality of the picture. A smart move for skipping the Oscar race while George Clooney is said to be finishing the “film’s extensive visual effects”.

“We just didn’t have enough time,” Clooney reportedly said. “The Monuments Men” also include names of Hollywood big shots such as Matt Damon, John Goodman, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett. The cast is surely a list of post winners and nominees of the Oscars. “If any of the effects looked cheesy, the whole movie would look cheesy,” Clooney reportedly said. “We simply don’t have enough people to work enough hours to finish it.”

“All we’ve ever said, from the very beginning, is that we wanted to make a commercial, non-cynical piece of entertainment,” he finally added. The movie is an adaptation from the book “The Monuments Men: Allie Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History” by Robert Edsel. It is based on a true story about an allied group, the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives Program, ordered on a mission to retrieve famous artworks and other significant cultural pieces from the Nazis.

In the movie, a World War II platoon is on a mission to salvage pieces of artwork before they are destroyed by the Nazis during the “Great Escape”. The artworks however are behind enemy lines waiting in line for their doom as ordered by Hitler and making the mission next to impossible. The American drama film is also with just the right amount of comedy. The film is reportedly made for $65 million. Aside from “The Monuments Men”, other movies such as “Foxcatcher”, “The Immigrant” and the “The Grace of Monaco” were also rescheduled for release next year.

Film fans can expect to see “The Monuments Men” showing on February 2014 with an unspecified day as stated in their trailer.
